Meet The Team

Chris Martin – Managing Director

I have more than 17 years’ construction experience, covering hands on site, project and construction management on jobs ranging from the mega, such as Crossrail, to the big, such as concrete and steel frame buildings and rail, to small scale housing and groundworks.

I became an apprentice carpenter for a house developer after leaving school and have subsequently worked across many sectors. I also worked in Australia on large construction projects.

After gaining experience on the tools I worked my way up to foreman before joining the Aspin Group as a Site Manager in 2014. Ultimately I became a Programme Manager overseeing the delivery of all of Aspin’s portfolio.

I have a wide range of experience in roles including Site Manager, Regional Civils’ Manager, Project and Programme Manager, working on contracts with a value of £17m.

I hold an APM Project Management (PMQ) qualification and have a proven track record with heavy civils, housing, rail, piling (sheet, rotary, CFA and driven CHS for rail OLE foundations), drainage, earthworks, RC, steel frame and housing.

Jamie McCutcheon – Site Manager

In a career spanning 15 years, I have gained a reputation for going beyond customers’ expectations in the fields of commercial control, quality and site safety.
As a fully-qualified Site Manager, I am highly experienced at managing major projects in the residential, commercial and rail sectors. I work closely with the Project and Contract Managers to ensure the construction team is kept up to speed with the works programme as it develops and that any issues are addressed immediately to ensure targets are met.
My rail experience, in particular, has given me invaluable insight into best practice and the need to put health & safety at the heart of every project. I also understand that commercial control is critical to success.

I have an NVQ Level 2 and have completed the Construction Industry Training Board’s accredited SSSTS and SMSTS courses.

My work as a Temporary Works Supervisor means I’m adept at risk management and spotting potential hazards on site.

Nick Stowe – Site Supervisor

I am a highly experienced and professional Site Supervisor, with a firm focus on solutions and compliance, and a strong track record of successful delivery across many projects in the construction and rail industries.

I have spent my entire professional career in the construction industry since graduating from Nottingham Trent University. My projects have included platform extensions (rail), electrification (rail), framework installation (civils), reinforced concrete framework (civils) and various piling jobs, both driven and bored. Clients have included Hochtief, Grahams, NWR, Sir Robert McAlpine, Tier 1 companies and local authorities.

I have played rugby since the age of 11, and still play first-team rugby for Hemel Hempstead Rugby Club, and rugby league for Hemel Stags. Playing regular team sport has undoubtedly helped me to develop the sort of people skills that are necessary to manage site teams and issues.

Craig Thomas – Contracts Manager

I have more than 18 years’ construction experience working as a lynchpin on prestigious projects including Battersea Power Station, the M3 Smart Motorway and the Great Western Electrification Project.

As Principal Contractor for Turner and Townsend at Battersea, I was responsible for the complete site set up of the project that comprised of reinforced concrete slabs, retaining walls, piling solutions and final fit-out.

On the M3 project, I was Site Agent responsible for the installation of steel tubular piles, using a vibro-pile method, along the hard shoulder to form the foundation base for CCTV masts and smart technology.

In Edinburgh, I was responsible from start to finish for the management and construction of a large steel frame accommodation block for 190 students – working for Hadley Steel Framing.

On the Great Western project, I supervised the installation of specialist pin piles in sensitive areas, under the instruction of Balfour Beatty. The work was carried out at night in very short timeslots requiring excellent time-management skills.

Working for both CGS and the Aspin Group I’ve used industry-leading Primavera P6 software to produce tenders with a value of up to £10m. I’m highly skilled at resolving site issues, getting projects back on track and saving money.
